In a delightful twist, Gagan Dev Riar, the actor behind the portrayal of Abdul Karim Telgi in Applause Entertainment’s Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, recently revealed a hilarious yet unintended aspect of his character that added an unexpected layer of authenticity to his performance.
Behind the scenes of Scam 2003: How loose pants became Telgi’s signature move
While filming the gripping series, the director noticed something peculiar about Gagan’s wardrobe – his pants seemed a bit too loose. Initially, it was assumed to be a wardrobe malfunction, but the truth behind this wardrobe quirk was far more amusing. As it turns out, Telgi’s infamous loose pants weren’t exactly part of the director’s grand plan. Gagan Dev Riar, known for his dedication to his craft, had undergone a physical transformation for the role, packing on some extra pounds to authentically embody the character of Abdul Karim Telgi, the mastermind behind a massive counterfeit stamp paper scam.
This transformation had an unintended consequence – his pants constantly slid down during filming due to the weight gain. However, Gagan saw an opportunity in this mishap. Rather than addressing the wardrobe issue, he decided to embrace it and incorporate it into his portrayal of Telgi. Thus the character trait was born – Telgi’s signature move of constantly pulling up his rebellious trousers.
